Project Life - Playdate November 2014

Hello friends - after a lengthy absence, here to share my most recent page from November.

Stamps all Close to My Heart, and Project Life Cards mainly from the Baby Boy mini kit, and one new one (blue stripey) from the Maggie Holmes edition of a part kit that I bought - who wants the same card umpteen times - just boring!

Other bits from Kaisercraft "Capture This" and so pleased to have used up some of my oldest stash - the Making Memories aqua sticker labels.

A fairly quick page which documents our new friendship with Riley and Cooper and their family.  So lovely to see four small boys all playing well together.  Hopefully the start of many more similar playdates!

Supplies:
American Crafts Thickers "Dear Lizzy" foam
Kaisercraft Capture This
Becky Higgins Project Life
Doodlebug Tangerine dotty washi

52 Card Challenge UK Scrappers - Week 42

This week, Nat set the challenge as autumnal colours - a very different thing is happening here in Queensland in Australia - it is heating up and getting set to fry us in summer.

As per the previous post, I found some ancient stripey paper that came in a magazine, together with the leaf pattern on the other side.  I try to set myself challenges as to ways to produce an end result that is pleasing - in this case, I really didn't like the original papers.

I found an old die cut in my stash in matching brown tones and some lovely velvet ribbon.  I turned again to my favourite Curly Cute sentiments from Stampin' Up! and gold embossed around the edge.  Liberal mistings and dollops of gold mist together with faux stitching and distressing add more interest and texture.  The bronze sequins really do sparkle IRL and add lots of interest.  Very reminiscent of a beautiful autumnal day in England with the crunchy and variegated leaves underfoot, turning to mush and mould with dampness and the inevitable rain.

I got a couple more cards from the same paper and am now pleased to say that I've used it up - I do still have some leaves left and sometimes I wish I was ruthless enough to throw the remainder away - it would certainly relieve a lot of the clutter! However, I do know that I enjoy these kinds of challenges, and it does kind of justify the stash build-up .... (maybe?)

Supplies:
Stripe and Leaf patterned paper - unknown
Brown die cut
Bronze sequins
Tan velvet ribbon
Curly Cute sentiment stamps - Stampin' Up!
Gold Embossing powder
Cosmic Shimmer mist - Antique Gold
CTMH ink - Autumn Terracotta
Project Life journalling pen - brown

I'm not game enough to count how many cards I am down now - we shall have to wait and see how we go, to see if I can complete this years' cards .... thanks for visiting here today.

52 Card Challenge UKS Scrappers - Week 35

Trying to dip back into the card challenge on UK Scrappers which has sadly again gone off course this year, I will try to catch up with them gradually in the hope of finishing all the challenges in one year - a goal, in any case!

This week. Nat set the challenge to be a "jaunty angle".  I am normally a straight kind of girl, but this is how I interpreted this challenge -

I took some freebie paper that had been kicking around for a looooonnnnngggg time (both the stripes and the leaves) and married it up with the gold felt doily that had come free with a card magazine.  I also delved into a packet of ancient die cuts for the brown paisley tag base.

Supplies:
Stripe and leaves paper - unknown
Brown paisley tag - unknown
Prima Got Flowers
Bronze sequins
Curly Cute sentiment stamps - Stampin' Up!
String
Washi Tape - yellow triangles and woodgrain - CTMH

I also did some "faux" stitching around the border with the brown Project Life journalling pen and some gold over the top.  Lots of sanding and distressing and the addition of the twine (also distressed) underneath.

A bit misty, inky and distressy - a nice change for me again!

Thanks for visiting.

Kinder Musik

This is the first traditional scrapbooking layout I have done in a good few months.  We are through the worst of our move to Hervey Bay and a period of stabilisation and settling in is still ahead of us.  I am gradually sorting out my craft room and opportunities await but details have not been finalised so I cannot share as yet.

To try and "get back in the groove" I had put the washi tape around the borders and printed out three photos and cropped them - and there I got stuck! The placement of things has always been my biggest issue and so it remains, especially as I am out of practise.

Once I saw the sketch, things gradually fell into place with the acquisition of a few new supplies and so this layout was created!

After struggling for sometime, I really like it now.  The main technique was to "spray" paint onto the page with a mini mister, and create a faux Flair badge using a stamp, punching a circle with my circle punch, and covering it with Glossy Accents.  A bit more detail, without the bulkiness.

Supplies:
Patterned Paper:  Heidi Swapp 6 x 6 paper pad “Favourite Things; Becky Higgins Project Life cards Aqua Banner and “Happiness”, MME Cut and Paste Flair "Small Charms" paper, Teresa Collins Memories "Filmstrip" paper
Transparency:  Kaisercraft Velvet Ensemble Collection "Theatre"
Cardstock:  Bazzilll White, Black and scrap of red
Washi Tape, various
Alpha - Black American Crafts Thickers, Jenni Bowlin Studio Playful Hodge Podge Stickers
Paint – Jo Sonja’s Acrylic Paint:  Sunflower and Titanium White
Punches - Small Music Note punch EK Success notebook border punch?, 1 ½ circle punch
Stamps:  Tim Holtz Stampendous Odds and Ends 2
Tim Holtz mini mister
Ranger Glossy Accents
3D foam pads
Acrylic block
Messy Mat
Heidi Swapp Stencil Kit “Stencil Minis – Shapes”
Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Puffy Gloss Stickers - Shapes

Hopefully I will maintain this crafting momentum and get back into the groove.  Thanks for visiting here today - stay tuned for more!

Bob the Builder

Last week, Henry and Lewis got to see Bob the Builder at Pialba Place shopping centre during school holidays.  Their task was to decorate either a tool box or a house.

Henry naturally chose a tool box whilst Lewis wasn't that bothered, but he would have definitely wanted the same as Henry, so I chose another of the same.

Left hand page above.

Right hand page above.  I printed all the bumph of the day from their internet page also onto photo paper so the images were the same kind of brightness.

Here's the double.

Supplies:
All stamps Close to My Heart
Doodlebug Washi
Kraft cardstock
Pebbles journalling card

Henry was so hesitant to hug Bob, but he did after I went and gave him a big hug.  He saw Bob didn't have a spanner, so he wanted to give him the one out of his tool kit! So sweet.

Hark, The Herald Angels Sing ...

This is one of my cards for the upcoming Close To My Heart convention card swap with other consultants.

Instructor Notes:

This would be a great card to make at a workshop for people to stretch their technical stamping experience at a budget price – only two colours of cardstock and one ink required, with minimal embellishments, yet still with a professional result.

It is also mostly a flat card apart from the 3D foam, so will only incur the minimal postage.  When you have volumes of cards to post at Christmas, I think this is quite important!

Techniques Learned:  direct to paper, masking

Supplies:

All Close to My Heart  - Hostess Set “Sing Glory”
New England Ivy ink
Gold Shimmer Tape
Gold self adhesive sequins
White card blank 6 x 4
White Daisy cardstock
New England Ivy cardstock
Other - Small Post It notes
A piece of waste paper
3D foam pads

 Instructions:

1.      Cut a card mat 3 3/4 x 5 ½ inches to fit neatly on your card blank. Edge round with your New England Ivy ink pad.

2.      Put your card mat on a waste piece of paper with the stamp set wadding underneath, and your craft mat under that – this way you still get a good stamped image without stamping on your craft mat and you can throw the waste paper away afterwards.

3.      Take the ivy stamp and starting off the edge, stamp in one direction across the top of the card mat.  For the next row, stamp in the other direction.  You will notice that the stamp does not have a straight edge, so small gaps will appear in your stamping.

4.      Keep repeating until most of the card mat has been covered.  For any gaps, “mask” off the areas where you have stamped with the small Post It notes, ensuring that there is just white space underneath.  Cover all the areas.  This is a bit time consuming, but worth the effort for the result!

5.      Stamp the message onto a piece of white cardstock, and cut into a rectangle 2 ¾ inches long x 2 inches wide.

6.      Cut a rectangle from white cardstock 2 ¼ inches wide x 2 ¾ inches long for the message mat.  I used the inking “direct to paper” technique whereby I rubbed an ink pad onto white cardstock with New England Ivy with approx ½ inch ink showing each side, then dried off with a heat gun.  This is a great technique for workshop participants if they want a match but don’t have the exact cardstock, but it is probably more economical for workshops to cut the mat from matching New England Ivy cardstock as the contrast.

7.      Adhere the white message mat to the New England Ivy mat with 3D foam pads.

8.      Cut two strips of Gold Shimmer tape 3 ¼ inches long and cut triangles into the edges like banners.

9.      Add your adhesive to the back of the New England Ivy message mat and then take the adhesive off the Gold Shimmer tape strips, making sure that everything is straight.  Then stick onto the card.

10.  Add three gold sequins in various sizes to the message mat, making sure that they are in the visual triangle.

11.  Stand back and admire the finished product!

Dad's 80th birthday

My Dad's 80th birthday party is in a couple of weeks, so I wanted to avoid the last minute panic and make his card well in advance when I had a few minutes.

Ever mindful of the massive amount of things I have to use up, I turned to the CTMH "Free to be Me" paper pack, which was received in the previous year's catalogue, so time to use up, if possible.

Instructions:

I took a 5 3/4 square card and cut the base 5 1/2 square inches out of the embossed blue card, and also cut a 5 3/4 wide x 5 1/2 long rectangle from the vellum.  I turned the extra 1/4 inch over on the left and ran a length of extra strong tape over on the back, which adhered the vellum to the blue base.  I then adhered the blue base to the card base.

I used Glacier cardstock to cut the third sized Spellbinders Labels One die, and then cut the larger square out of the blue cardstock from the "Free to be Me" paper pack.  Adhere the Glacier cardstock die cut on top with 3D foam tape.  Place the numbers on top and then draw a border around the darker blue edge with white pen.  Don't worry if it is not perfect - the stickles will cover.  Once dry, place the Stardust Stickles over the white border to add the glitter.  Set aside some hours to dry.

Cut the tip of the washi tape into a banner peack and adhere about an inch from the bottom.

Adhere the die cut journaling block on to the top.  Now stamp two of the feathers - one with Lagoon, one with Twilight ink.  I added some ink to a craft sheet and spritzed water on top and then stamped for a watercolour look.   I outlined the lighter feather with watercolour pencil for a more defined edge.  I then added some pen strokes to both feathers and embossed them with silver.  I added some finer strokes in silver pen for a more realistic effect.

Cut out the feathers and adhere to the side of the journalling block with 3D foam dots, curling up some of the edges a bit with your paintbrush.  I stamped the swirling banner out of Glacier ink and cut out.  I stamped "Happy Birthday" in Lagoon and then cut out.  I adhered the banner on top of the feathers with 3D glue and once secure, added the two separate words on top with more 3D glue for another layer.

You can also add more glue dots underneath the tip of the feather and one of the sequins to further anchor the vellum to the cardstock.

Add the finishing touch of the silver sequins and you're done!

Supplies:
Close to My Heart Free to be Me paper pack - blue cardstock, feathers vellum
CTMH Silver Geometric washi tape
CTMH Silver sequins
CTMH Stamp Sets:  Feathers, Give a Lift, Holiday Tags
CTMH Glacier, Lagoon, Twilight inks
Derwent Inktense water colour pencils
White pen, silver pen

Men's cards - Crate Paper Brook

Last Sunday was Father's Day here in Australia, so I made a card for Paul from the boys, and one for my Dad.

I NEVER usually go mad and buy a whole paper range, but I certainly did for this one - I still just love it.  Great earthy colours yet still vibrant and bright, and really suitable for lots of different subjects.

I usually just make cards with my left overs, but I just grabbed this container and started to go for it.

The above one was for my Dad.  The mini chevron punch, gems and stamps are all CTMH.

Happy birthday Michael!  I used one of the embellishment stickers and some punched leaves.  Ribbon and mini ricrac stuck down with Glue Lines - amazing stuff.

Some of the different patterned papers, cut into strips and inked around the edges.  One of the chipboard stickers and then edged with aqua stickles for some bling!

Supplies:
Crate Paper Brook patterned paper, stickers and chipboard
Close To My Heart Holiday Tags stamps, gems, chevron punch
Stone coloured mini ricrac, white ribbon
Aqua Stickles
Simon Says Stamp! Dark Chocolate ink

I have a feeling that this range will be used up to the entire centimetre .... but it should be adorning some Project Life pages soon, I suppose!

Thanks for stopping by.  :)

CTMH Christmas Card

Here's a very simple Christmas card I whipped up last night, using Close to My Heart products from the new 2014-15 catalogue.

I've used a 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 card base from Kaisercraft - I have just finished making cards with this pack and I love the colour - almost Kraft, and great for men's cards.

Repeatedly stamp the label from Holiday Labels/Occasions down the left hand side.  Ink one in New England Ivy with the Cranberry message, and cut out.

Adhere the Dark Chocolate stripey ribbon onto the card with Glue Lines, and glue the edges with wet glue to prevent fraying.

Cut a scalloped edge with the Fiskars Threading Water punch and adhere on the bottom of the ribbon.

Stamp the holly from the Sing Glory Hostess set, and cut out.  Apply the label greeting onto the card with 3D pop dots, and then adhere the holly with wet glue onto the ribbon.

Add some Candy Cane Stickles around the edge of the label and as tiny dots to represent the berries on the holly.  Go ahead and fill in the round spaces of the scalloped edge border die cut.

Stand back and admire! I think this card would be particularly suitable for men, or for people who like clean and simple designs.

Supplies:

Close to my Heart stamp sets Holiday Tags, Sing Glory
Close to my Heart wide ribbon Dark Chocolate stripe
Kaisercraft card base (or use Kraft)
Kraft cardstock for scallop
Fiskars Threading Water punch
Candy Cane Stickles (red)
Cocoa, Cranberry and New England Ivy Close to My Heart Exclusive Inks

Quick and easy! :)

Chinchilla Show Sideshow Alley

I am gradually working toward getting recent unfinished projects completed before I even begin to think about new ones ...

This CTMH Picture My Life layout was started shortly after the Chinchilla Show which was 23rd May this year.  However, life and circumstances got in the way, and I had cropped all the photos I wanted to use, adhered them to bits of paper, and had to leave the embellishing till another time.  So over the last few days, I have been adding stamping and bits and pieces in order to get these layouts completed.
Left hand page

Right hand page

None of the photos were brilliant, and they were all snapped so quickly, so they could easily be cropped down to this style of page.  I didn't have a lot more to say, so I could easily limit the journaling to one Project Life card and let the photos speak for themselves.

I love the vibrancy and bright colours of the Free to be Me paper pack, but most of the paper doesn't take direct stamping, as there is an embossed pattern on the solid colour pages.  I rectified the stamping here by going over the colour with a permanent pen.

Most of the stamping was onto white card, which was then adhered onto the pages - more colour contrast that way.  I also outlined the "Cherish This" stamped image with a matching Promarker (an alcohol marker like Shin Han) so that it stood out a little bit against the busy background.

The boys were by far the smallest children on this tall inflatable slide, but they showed no fear - they were squealing with delight, which makes me so happy to see.

Here's what the layouts look like side by side:

Supplies:
Close to My Heart "Free to be Me" paper pack, Black Shimmer Trim, Chevron Punch
CTMH stamp sets
  • Believe in Yourself - Everyday Life
  • Fast and Furious
  • One Way Borders - Flair
  • Take  Note - Cricut Bundle
  • My Life - Cricut Bundle
  • Kaboom - Stamp of the Month
Assorted washi, Promarker, Black Permanent Marker, Gems, Brad, Project Life elements
Pebbles "Love You More" Journaling and Quote Card

Great to have finished another layout amidst the chaos of boxes.  Back with more soon! :)

Project Life - July 2014 Moving Again

There has neither been time nor the inclination to scrapbook with all the turmoil and upheaval in our recent history, but in the past week, I have sat down and started to document our recent move.  I didn't take any photos, but thought it was just as important to journal my feelings and emotions because I want to remember this how it is, whilst still being creative with papers, and embellishments.

I find it easier also to use up older style scrapbooking stash in the Project Life/Picture My Life style as you cut things down and use them on a smaller scale.

Left hand side page above

Right hand side page above

And to follow, both pages together so you get the idea.

I used a lot of CTMH stamps mixed with other elements, and am happy with how the pages turned out.

Supplies:
Kaisercraft Now Boarding Collection "Departure Lounge" patterned paper
Simple Stories Urban Traveller sn@p Card
Pebbles "Love You More" Journaling and Quote cards
Project Life journalling card
Simon Says Stamp! Dark Chocolate Premium Die Ink
PSX Stamps "Antique"
Studio Calico Mistables
MME Penny Lane - Free Bird "Love" large accessories
Heidi Grace flocked alphabet stickers
Promarkers
Derwent Inktense Coloured Pencils
Sizzix leaf die, Tim Holtz Sizzlets Decorative Strip "Typeset"
Washi Tape - Francheville Masking Tape and other
K and Co Alphabet tiles
Dear Lizzy acrylic stamps (camera)
MM Rub-ons "Mixed Brite", Tiny Alphas "Brown Ledger"
Close to My Heart Stamps: - "My Life" Cricut Bundle, "Balloon Talk" Stamp of the Month (Feb 2014), "It's the Little Things" Stamp of the Month (November 2014), Cranberry and Lagoon inks

I am very happy that I've gone on to use up the whole sheet of MME Penny Lane die cuts, whether it be here or on simple cards that I've made subsequently - one item of supplies used up completely makes me feel justified in buying it, no matter how many years later! Something that I mean to do with the numerous rub-ons I still have in my stash.  I will just make it part of my next crafting mission!

I am working amongst chaos and jumble, with nowhere to unpack anything due to the lack of suitable storage, which I am finding it difficult to source in Hervey Bay.  Hopefully when having to go to the dentist in Brisbane next week, I will find time to get to Ikea  to maybe partially address this issue .... thanks for visiting.  :)

CTMH Skylark cards - thank you Chinchilla!

We are now moved into our new house in Hervey Bay, so the period of adjustment and settling in begins.  I have absolutely no inspiration to craft, as there is no order or organisation, and my future scrapping room currently is a dumping ground!

Here are the cards I made for my lovely friends in Chinchilla to say thank you for their friendship and the gift of the boys' bikes and helmets they received at their 3rd birthday party.

Seeing that I received 25 sheets of this Skylark paper in my consultant's kit, my motto is always to get using! I don't currently know any crafters here in Hervey Bay, and already have a mountain of stash to use, so I may as well create with the Skylark kit whilst it is still relatively fresh to me and get it finished.  However, with each sheet making just four cards, that could obviously take a while! Still, here are some samples.

To the above card, I inked around the edge of the paper with lagoon ink.  Used my scallop scissors to add the Juniper border interest, made a journalling label with a Spellbinders die and added some other flowers - I do prefer smaller flowers to large ones, as I find them more usable on cards.

Skylark complements - birdcage, along with a resin flower, placed within a larger fabric daisy.  The dark chocolate scallop interest was left over on my table.

The card for the above crafty friend had a change of paper - here I used Studio Calico.  The zigzag circle embellishment holder is a Sizzlits die, which I run through my Bigshot.  The left over strip of Skylark patterned paper was used under the washi tape for extra interest.

Other company washi tape (Doodlebug) with a daisy Prima flower - this helps to "ground" the resin flower, I think.

Lots of left overs here on the above card - the bird Skylark complements, with a resin flower.  All others were left overs.

I used the ticket and daisy centre from the Skylark complements, along with a Spellbinders die and some old Doodlebug sequins, glued on with Glossy Accents.

To the above card, I used the blue ticket, along with the yellow resin bird and green daisy.

To most of the cards, I added Stardust Stickles as a way of adding sparkle and pop! and I also love adding gems and pearls where I can.

I only have some larger Skylark complements journalling tiles left, which I shall use on layouts or special cards where appropriate.

Supplies:
CTMH Skylark patterned paper, Skylark complements, Slate striped twist ties, Skylark assortments (resin flowers and birds), Kraft, Lagoon, Juniper and Sweet Leaf cardstock and some other companies' left over scraps
Elizabeth Craft Design dies - thank you
Spellbinders and Sizzlets dies
Various inks
Washi tape
Prima flowers

Waiting for some energy and inspiration to begin sorting out my craft room and start creating again ... I am sure it will happen soon!  Thanks for visiting.  :)

UK Scrappers 52 Card Challenge 2014 - Week 15

Week 15 - All creatures great and small,  was the challenge for that particular week.  Not really a clever interpretation, but at least a bird is an animal!

It was Lily's 3rd birthday on Sunday and here is her card.

Before leaving the UK, I stamped out lots of these images from a freebie set of stamps Tara acquired - they are adorable, and stamp really well for a free set of magazine stamps.

I got out my Promarkers and coloured in the bird, the border of the journalling plate, and the flowers.  Lots of glitter over the flowers and the bird.

Supplies:
Miss Nelly patterned paper - Kaisercraft
Promarkers
Freebie magazine stamps, "Curly Cute" Stampin' Up!, alphabet and number stamps by Image Tree
Doodlebug Fancy Frills glitter hearts
Lagoon ink - Close to My Heart

Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Lily. x

Stampin' Up! Curly Cute sentiment

I really like this card, though it did cause me a few head-scratching moments and took longer to execute than it should.

I made her a batch of cards as a little present, so I will be back to share those when I've had a chance to upload.  Thanks for your visit! :)

Henry and Lewis - almost Three

Dear Henry and Lewis,

In just a couple of weeks' time you will be three.  We have been in Chinchilla for just over four months, but in that time, we have all made some really lovely friends, who we will be very sad to leave.

In these few short months, you have both learned:
  • how to pronounce helicopter
  • to grasp the basics in doing a jigsaw
  • how to play well with other children
In this past month especially, Henry your imagination is coming to the fore and you are now making up your own stories and songs.  You particularly love taking pretend medicine and practising to be a Doctor, after all our recent bouts of illness.

Lewis, you speak a lot with Henry and to us, but a lot of what you say is still incomprehensible.  You seem to be very gymnastic, and love to hang upside down on the sofa like a little buddha.  We have been through the "that's mine" phase and whilst we're not out yet, hopefully the worst is over.

We will be especially sad to leave your Day Care, which is Charley's Place, which you both thoroughly enjoy.  It is a really special facility, and you have loved interacting with the animals and growing things on the farm.  Here is a copy of your reports from your parent/teacher interviews:
