52 Card Challenge - UKS Scrappers Weeks 4 & 10

Well - I am having a mostly great time, making cards for these different challenge weeks.  I made two more last night for the following weeks:

Week 4 - Using Paper from a Pad

Week 10 - Making a card with a number on it

We have a spate? of two year old birthdays coming up, and I need to make six birthday cards.  I suppose I really should start making my own boys birthday cards too - that would be eight!  Maybe next year, when it won't be as many. 

Here's my card for Week 4 -



 

I bought two of these First Edition 12 x 12 paper pads when the boys were born, and shamefully have only used this one to make one year old cards last year!  I suppose that is the real difference between buying on line or from a bricks and mortar shop - I would have had a good flick through and worked out which papers I liked and which I didn't.  Never mind - I will use it, by hook or by crook (eventually!) or give some of it away. 

 

I figured two year old little boys aren't that bothered by butterflies on their cards just yet - so the background paper is floral too. 

 

I altered the "2" which was pink with a brown promarker.  As the sticker was shiny, the promarker did leave some ink on my finger, so my solution to that was cover it with glossy accents.  I think the Cuttlebug Monkey really adds character, and I gave the die-cut some dimension by using Ranger Enamel Accents on his eyes so that they pop. 

 

Half way through the process I thought "uh oh" but now I really like it!

This card took me much longer to do - so many more fiddly bits! I again altered a chipboard number by painting it green and then making it look professional by glossing over with Glossy Accents.  I love the shine that this stuff gives!



 

Loads more die-cutting and punches used here.  The Elizabeth Crafts Design "happy birthday" die has already paid for itself many times over in terms of the amount of use it gets.  Those are the kinds of tools I really like to buy! 

 

I tried to devise some smart way of putting on that self adhesive flocked lace, but it wasn't too be.  This card is probably busier than I like to make them these days, but sometimes they just turn out like that.  At least it is colourful and cheery!

 

Isn't it great when you get out something that you've had for years and it is the perfect thing?  A really old small daisy punch was just the thing for a wee embellishment on the card.

UK Scrappers June Week 2 Challenge

Karen set a challenge over at UK Scrappers this week to use this colour scheme from the Design Seeds website: 

I thought it was beautiful, so I decided to join in, if I had enough time.  I managed to scrape it in with just enough time to spare. 

I went to Chelsea Flower Show in 2009 and took scads of photos and have scrapbooked quite a few of them.  I still have loads to do, but somehow scrapbooking the boys has taken over! 

The challenge was to use a nature theme, three photos, and that colour scheme.  I thought I would keep the layout simple but use up some of the mountain of stash that I have accumulated. 

I stickles the spots on the butterfly and backed it and the sticker with white cardstock so that the colour was bright and crisp.  I covered the chipboard flower with "Poppyseed" patterned paper and the leaves with the green patterned paper.  I also used the olive green cardstock to give the flower more punch and also bordered the leaves in the same manner. 

No real techniques here - just another layout completed for my future album!

UKS Weekly Challenge - February Week 3

I am part of the Twilight Addicts social group on UK Scrappers, and it is our turn to set the challenge this week. 

As usual, the challenge consists of three parts - the first is to use the sketch below for 10 points. 

The second part of the challenge is to use a group of photos for the second lot of 10 points.  Finally,  for the last 10 points, we would like you to draw inspiration from a book for your title or colour scheme and make sure your reference this in your post. 

I created this layout below of Lewis at six months. 



You can see that I have swapped out two photos to use a hand and footprint of Lewis. 

I used the First Edition range of papers once again called "Up, up and Away" - I am so pleased that they are really versatile and go with most things to do with baby boys.  I used some lime green Bazzill "Just the Edge" strips to coordinate with the papers and then did some handcutting for the embellishment arrangement on the left hand side.  I took some time out one day to take hand and foot prints of both Henry and Lewis for their milestones, and used a pre-gessoed canvas sketch pad from the Poundshop which I have had for donkey's years - I knew it would come in handy some day! 

I had to think long and hard about a quote from a favourite book, but Winnie the Pooh has always been one of my lifelong favourites, and I hope it too will be one of my boys' favourites in the future.  I love the philosophy and the life messages contained in the stories - and how central the importance of meaningful relationships are to all the characters.  I like the handcrafted element to pages, and decided to use my PSX "Playful" alphabet stamps for the quote and the title.  Good to blow the dust off your tools occasionally!

I am very conscious that we are older parents, and through scrapbooking I want to leave my boys messages about how I would like to see them live their lives, and the kind of men they will be when they grow up, should we not be here to see that happen.  That is why the quote I have used is especially poigant to me:

"If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart.  I'll stay there forever".
