Dad's 80th birthday

My Dad's 80th birthday party is in a couple of weeks, so I wanted to avoid the last minute panic and make his card well in advance when I had a few minutes.

Ever mindful of the massive amount of things I have to use up, I turned to the CTMH "Free to be Me" paper pack, which was received in the previous year's catalogue, so time to use up, if possible.

Instructions:

I took a 5 3/4 square card and cut the base 5 1/2 square inches out of the embossed blue card, and also cut a 5 3/4 wide x 5 1/2 long rectangle from the vellum.  I turned the extra 1/4 inch over on the left and ran a length of extra strong tape over on the back, which adhered the vellum to the blue base.  I then adhered the blue base to the card base.

I used Glacier cardstock to cut the third sized Spellbinders Labels One die, and then cut the larger square out of the blue cardstock from the "Free to be Me" paper pack.  Adhere the Glacier cardstock die cut on top with 3D foam tape.  Place the numbers on top and then draw a border around the darker blue edge with white pen.  Don't worry if it is not perfect - the stickles will cover.  Once dry, place the Stardust Stickles over the white border to add the glitter.  Set aside some hours to dry.

Cut the tip of the washi tape into a banner peack and adhere about an inch from the bottom.

Adhere the die cut journaling block on to the top.  Now stamp two of the feathers - one with Lagoon, one with Twilight ink.  I added some ink to a craft sheet and spritzed water on top and then stamped for a watercolour look.   I outlined the lighter feather with watercolour pencil for a more defined edge.  I then added some pen strokes to both feathers and embossed them with silver.  I added some finer strokes in silver pen for a more realistic effect.

Cut out the feathers and adhere to the side of the journalling block with 3D foam dots, curling up some of the edges a bit with your paintbrush.  I stamped the swirling banner out of Glacier ink and cut out.  I stamped "Happy Birthday" in Lagoon and then cut out.  I adhered the banner on top of the feathers with 3D glue and once secure, added the two separate words on top with more 3D glue for another layer.

You can also add more glue dots underneath the tip of the feather and one of the sequins to further anchor the vellum to the cardstock.

Add the finishing touch of the silver sequins and you're done!
